Audio quality?

When uploading music to all digital platforms, it's important to consider these standard requirements that stores demand.

  • Track too short or too long: The minimum duration of a track should be 1 minute.
  • Volume too high or too low

  • Avoid these points when distributing your music. This way you can distribute your music without any problem.
Can I access my music and artwork files after uploading them?

Yes, your music is securely stored in the system. We store and back up all the music files you upload, which you can access anytime you need. View your single or album from the MY CATALOG and you can play or download any of the audio tracks you've uploaded (simply right-click and 'save file as'). YouTube Content ID
How long does it take to monetize videos on YouTube?

Once you have registered to submit your tracks to YouTube Content ID, the YouTube Content ID search engine may take up to a month to find all YouTube videos using your sound recordings.

If I whitelist my YouTube channel, will this service continue to generate revenue for me that does not come from my channel?

Yes, we will continue to monetize videos that are not part of your whitelisted channel.

Why do I see a claim on a monetized video?

Because you are a client, you and others using your music on YouTube will receive a notification from YouTube that UMW Recordings, Inc has claimed your sound recording.

How does GSDistroPartners work within the content identification system?
  • Artists send us their music for distribution.
  • We use our GSDistroPartners system engine to upload the music to YouTube Content ID.
  • Content ID constantly analyzes YouTube content for matches with the music we've sent. When submitting your music through GSDistroPartners, be sure to provide accurate information about the songs, including titles, composers, and copyright owners. This will help avoid false claims and make copyright management easier.
  • Once your music is in Content ID, it's important to regularly monitor any copyright notices you receive.
  • If you have any questions or concerns about copyright claims, feel free to contact our support team.
What types of rights can be monetized?

There are two types of 'rights':

- Sound recording (audio)

- Publishing (Composition)

What is monetization on YouTube?

Artists earn money from their sound recordings in YouTube videos when ads are placed on the videos. The YouTube Content ID service 'monetizes' (identifies and collects revenue) from those sound recordings for you.

Our team is committed to helping you maximize monetization potential on YouTube. We'll work closely with you to meet the requirements to become a YouTube partner, thus opening the door to multiple revenue opportunities.

Monetization on YouTube refers to the ability of music content creators to generate revenue through their videos on the platform. By becoming a member of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), you can access various revenue sources that allow you to reap rewards for the effort and talent invested in your musical creations.

What is the difference between 'eligible' sound recordings that I can monetize and 'ineligible' sound recordings that I cannot monetize on YouTube?

Eligible: You can submit specific tracks to YouTube for revenue collection that:

  • Use only your own material over which you have exclusive rights.
  • Use third-party material over which you have exclusive rights.

Ineligible: Tracks cannot be submitted to YouTube for revenue collection that:

  • Contain instrumental content that has been previously used in other tracks (such as samples or beats), even if it now has an exclusive license for you.
  • Contain any ambient sound effects (such as nature sounds), production loops (such as GarageBand loops)
  • Are already monetized on YouTube by another distributor
  • You have previously licensed to a third party, exclusively
  • Were created solely for use in YouTube videos to exploit Content ID (e.g., music used for end cards)
  • Contain clips or speeches from the public domain
  • Violation of these guidelines may lead to permanent blocking of your account from this service.
How much money can I earn on YouTube?

It depends on various factors, such as the frequency of your music's usage. The more people upload and stream your music, the more you can earn from your sound recordings.

Will UMW Recordings, Inc monetize my sound recordings if they have been included in videos uploaded by others to YouTube?

If you opt for this service, we will monetize all YouTube videos where others have used your music and where ads have been placed on those videos.

What if someone uses my content without permission on YouTube?

If someone uses your content without permission on YouTube, Content ID will detect the match and notify you. You can then decide how you want to handle the situation, whether by blocking the content, monetizing it, or tracking its usage.

What is the recommended procedure to prevent the content identification system from detecting my music content?

Use properly licensed or royalty-free music: Choose to use music that has the proper license for use on online platforms, allowing you to maintain control over how your content is treated on YouTube.

Communication with distributors: If you're an artist or have music you plan to upload to YouTube, keep open communication with your distributors. Inquire if they offer Content ID exemption options or if they can whitelist your channel.

Privacy settings: Before uploading your content, review the privacy settings on YouTube. By setting your videos as 'Unlisted' or 'Private', you'll have more control over who can view and access your music.

Editing and transformation: Edit your music before uploading it. Changing the speed, pitch, or applying effects can make automatic detection less effective.

Contact YouTube support: If you're having trouble with content identification and believe there's an error, reach out to YouTube support. Provide specific details about your situation and request assistance in resolving the issue.

Use of original music: If you create your own original music, make sure to have records and proof of your authorship. This can be helpful if a rights dispute arises.

Can I use Content ID through UMW Recordings, Inc without meeting the subscriber and watch hours requirements on my YouTube channel?

Yes, you can benefit from Content ID through UMW Recordings, Inc without having to meet the criteria of 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time on your channel. Partnering with UMW Recordings, Inc allows you to generate revenue from the use of your music in videos by other creators, regardless of your channel's current size.

What does the term Streaming Fraud entail and what is its impact on the artist community?

"Streaming Fraud: refers to dishonest activity that negatively impacts the music industry, especially in the realm of royalties generated from music streaming. This manipulative practice undermines equity in compensation for legitimate artists by reducing the royalty pool available to them.

What are the steps to avoid being flagged for fraudulent streaming activities?

To avoid being affected by fraudulent streaming activities, it is crucial to be vigilant and take preventive measures:

"Avoid overly good offers:" Companies that promise a fixed amount of streams or placements should be viewed with caution. Guaranteeing these results is unrealistic and likely indicative of a corrupt company.

"Do not use dubious services:" Avoid using services that seem illegitimate or promise extravagant results. Engaging in such services could jeopardize your music and your reputation as an artist on digital platforms.

"Be cautious of paid playlists:" On Spotify, editorial playlists should not be purchased. Any offer that guarantees you a spot on these playlists is illegal and should be avoided.

"Use legitimate channels:" If you want to promote your music on playlists, make sure to follow proper procedures. For example, Spotify only accepts playlist submissions through its artist platform and spaces cannot be bought.

"Evaluate the authenticity of companies:" Carefully research any company that offers guaranteed results. Using fraudulent services can have a negative impact on your streaming analytics and royalties, as well as affect future releases.

Remember that engaging with illegitimate companies not only affects your earnings and analytics, but can also lead to your music being removed from platforms due to fraudulent activities.

What initiatives are being implemented in the music industry to address the issue of fraudulent streaming?

The music industry is taking significant steps to address the challenge of fraudulent streaming:

Detailed reporting: Leading platforms like Spotify are actively responding to the issue. They have introduced measures such as providing distributors with monthly reports detailing artificial streams detected and subsequently removed from royalty calculations and payments.

Music Fights Fraud Alliance: A global alliance called the Music Fights Fraud Alliance has been established. This collaboration brings together companies from different segments of the industry with the unified goal of eliminating fraudulent streaming. The alliance aims to address current challenges and provide concrete solutions for the benefit of artists.

These initiatives demonstrate that the industry is committed to addressing the issue of fraudulent streaming comprehensively and collaboratively.

What is considered generic content?

These are the main aspects that our Quality Control team will evaluate:

1. Misleading metadata:

- Avoid using titles related to movies, TV series, famous characters, and other misleading elements.

2. Genres:

- Refrain from including terms related to genre in metadata, especially in artist names, tracks, and albums. This includes examples like Rock, Pop, Trap, Reggaeton, Latin, Hip-hop, Lo-fi, Electronic, and more.

3. AI-generated or random MIDI audio:

- We do not allow the use of looped samples without genuine artistic purpose, as well as audio generated with patterns of fake content, identical durations, unrelated titles, and generic artwork.

4. Tracks with muted audio or generic noise:

- Avoid using generic audio like white noise or extremely weak sounds.

5. Generic artists:

- Generic artist names like Choir, Orchestra, Singer, or Band are not accepted under any circumstances.

6. Basic musical terms:

- The use of expressions related to instruments (e.g., Guitar, Piano, Drums) and musical concepts or structures (e.g., tracks, time, song, beat) should be avoided.

7. Explicit features:

- Avoid expressions that explicitly refer to specific uses of music, such as “sleep music,” “relaxation music,” “yoga music,” “music for your pet,” and similar.

8. Artwork accuracy:

- When providing artwork, the use of original designs is preferred over generic templates.

9. Ringtones:

- Albums, artists, or titles should not include generic descriptions like tone, alert, ringtone, video game, and similar.

If any kind of Artificial Streaming activity is detected, if a release with this type of content is approved, it will no longer be allowed to publish such material on your platform; therefore, it will be rejected.

Content in the public domain may not be published

Content belonging to the public domain in certain areas may not be published on channels. This decision is made by the channels themselves in order to provide the best possible experience to users and avoid copyright-related issues.

Unfortunately, if this situation arises, at UMW Recordings, Inc, we do not have the capability to intervene to have such content published on these channels.

It's important to note that several leading DSPs (Digital Service Providers), such as "Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, YouTube Content ID, YouTube Music, Facebook, TikTok, SoundExchange, AGEDI, Audible Magic, BMAT, "and other similar channels, do not support the publication of this type of content.

What can be registered?

All creations have rights, because they exist (and because they are creative). They are works of the mind, of creativity, even if sometimes they are more concrete (a model, a sculpture, a postcard, a musical piece...). That is intellectual property. Everything points to that first right.

International Legislation

The most important legal reference to copyright is contained in Article 27.2 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948. It states:

Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author.

However, the principles on which international copyright protection is based are much older. These were first established in the Berne Convention of 1886, which still forms the cornerstone of a comprehensive framework of international law today.

Universal Copyright Convention

Under the auspices of UNESCO, this convention was created to establish a copyright protection system for all nations of the world, capable of guaranteeing respect for individual rights and promoting the development of literature, science, and the arts.

Its most well-known result is the famous symbol ©, which means that a work is protected in its country and therefore in all countries that have signed the Copyright Convention. In addition, this convention establishes rules for effective and adequate protection of copyright, such as the basic rights that guarantee the economic interests of authors and the conditions of protection.

The full text of the convention is available on the UNESCO website in three languages.

The Berne Convention

The basic principles governing the protection of copyright internationally were established in the Berne Convention for the Protection ofLiterary and Artistic Works. Currently signed by 163 countries, the Berne Convention establishes standards such as the national treatment standard, which means that, in all countries, foreign authors benefit from the same rights as national authors.

Rome Convention

The Rome Convention extended copyright protection to related rights: performing artists enjoy rights over their performances, phonogram producers over their recordings, and radio and television organizations over their programs.

The protection provided by this convention varies depending on whether it is provided to performing artists or phonogram producers and broadcasting organizations. For the former, protection includes the possibility of preventing certain uses of their performances without their prior consent and subject to certain conditions, while the latter benefit from the exclusive right to authorize or prohibit.

Beijing Treaty

The Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances concerns the copyright of performing artists in audiovisual performances, which was adopted on June 26, 2012, by the Diplomatic Conference on the Protection of Audiovisual Fixations of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Beijing.

The treaty aims to promote the moral and economic rights of performing artists. This treaty has been signed by 76 countries and has been ratified by Botswana, China, Japan, Slovakia, Syria, and the United Arab Emirates. Data Storage

The " File Unique ID" with participant information and work title is stored and archived with a timestamp* on a large decentralized and immutable computer network called Blockchain.

For your privacy, UMW Recordings, Inc. does not store the file you used to generate the FUID. " Without the original file used for registration, you will not be able to prove your authorship later on," so we recommend the following:

1- Store it in hardware storage.

2- Store it in at least 2 clouds, for example: OneDrive, Mega, Google Drive, or any cloud of your choice.

Timestamp

A timestamp, also known as a time stamp, is a sequence of characters denoting the time and date (or one of them) when a certain event occurred.

This information is usually presented in a consistent format, allowing easy comparison between two different records and tracking progress over time; the practice of consistently timestamping current data is called time stamping.

Flags are typically used in event tracking; each event is assigned a timestamp.

It's Release Day and I Can't Find My Songs?

As long as you've given at least 1 - 2 weeks for stores to ingest your release, if you received a notification from us that your release was successfully delivered and can't find it on iTunes or Spotify, please contact us from your dashboard and we'll investigate. Sometimes search indexing on these stores may take some time to update (especially on Fridays, which is global release day!)

Is It Possible to Restrict Countries for Distribution, Why Would I Use This Option?

For most independent artists, worldwide release will be the default option. UMW Recordings, Inc offers the option to select countries for distribution, which is used if you've signed a local label deal for a specific territory and need to exclude it from your distribution. For example, you've signed a contract with a US record label only, you can use UMW Recordings, Inc to distribute to all countries except the US (where your US record label will distribute on your behalf). If you're entirely independent, keep the global option selected.

Can I Edit or Modify My Album After It's Been Submitted?

Once you've submitted your release for delivery, you won't be able to make any changes through the panel or My Releases pages. However, for simple changes like spelling errors or a change in release date, please reach out to us through the support platform on your dashboard, and we can make the change on your behalf. Some things cannot be changed, such as track order and number, ISRC, UPC, in which case, you'll need to set up a new product.

Monetization and License Protection
How can I protect my music and monetize my content on YouTube?

Certainly, you do " YouTube Content ID," which is a fingerprint identification system that allows you to find your music when used in other people's videos. Therefore, UMW automatically claims a matching video on your behalf. In other words, if you upload a video with background music to YouTube, you'll receive a Content ID notice, indicating that we've correctly submitted your music to Content ID.

Do I need a license to publish my music?

If the music is 100% your own original creation, you automatically own the copyright and don't need any license.

Can I use royalty-free samples or tracks?

It's fine to use copyright-free samples from sample libraries, such as Splice, Sounds, LoopCloud, etc.

Can I upload DJ mixes or remixes to UMW?

Enter the original artist's name in the fields.

Structure your song title as follows: " “Music Title"(feat. Artist 2) [Artist 2 Remix]”. Artist 2 is the remixer.

This will help stores correctly tag the remixer's artist page.

Can I upload covers of songs?

Of course.

As long as you're recording a song written by someone else, you need to obtain permission from the copyright owners. Obtaining permission involves contacting the copyright owners of each song. When you hire Easy Song Licensing, they handle everything for you.

▪ Easy Song Licensing accepts online payments.

▪ After receiving payment, Easy Song Licensing follows the Compulsory Law to obtain your mechanical license.

How can I protect my music from unauthorized use or copyright infringement?

Once you register your music on our platform, we implement advanced monitoring and detection technologies to identify any unauthorized use. We introduce UMWLOCK " (Ultramultidirectional Lock)", an innovative solution designed to protect your music and safeguard your rights as an artist. With this system, you can prevent unknown individuals from stealing and uploading your music to streaming services without your permission.

How do I get started using it to protect my music?

To start using " UMWLock" and protect your music, you can visit our official website. Choose a unique plan and follow the provided steps to sign up and start using our platform.

How does UMWLock work?

It utilizes encryption and rights verification technology to protect your music. By implementing our system, your music gets locked down and can only be distributed on streaming services with your permission.

What does it mean when my distributor asks for proof of ownership and what kind of proof can I provide?

▪ When your distributor asks for proof of ownership, they're looking for you to demonstrate the authenticity and legitimacy of your music. This involves proving the origin of your music, whether through your own creation, purchasing beats/samples, or using free elements.

▪ However, there's no guarantee of distribution to Content ID, even if you've provided proof. If your distributor determines that your music can't be distributed to Content ID, this decision is final and is made to ensure the integrity of deliveries to stores.

▪ To comply with this request, you can employ several effective options. Screenshots of your production software (DAW) showing the creative process are a solid way to demonstrate your authorship. If you've purchased beats or samples, providing a link to the provider along with your purchase receipt establishes the legal basis for your use. If you've used free resources, consider adjusting your services to avoid content identification issues in the future.
